生活的艱難就在於，
有太多無預警並且光怪陸離的事情同時發生，
應付不來，應付不完，永無止盡，
你卻失去了力氣
所相信的人和事，相信的價值都潰堤了，變得無所適從，
前方沒有路，後方的橋也斷了
回不去，進退維谷，腹背受敵。

作者：Muriel Barbery

坊間對這本書的評價相當兩極，不是極好就是極差，
這本書著實不好閱讀，但若是藉由電影來了解這本書，
恐怕不能看到精隨，
主要是因為全書是各以兩位主角的第一人稱自白寫成，
劇情軸線本身不是重點，故事情節也不太複雜，
(雖然結局有點意外)
主要很大部分是主角的內心戲，
包括內在省思，以及哲學思維的邏輯推演和辯證過程，
這個也是其中最精闢的、最難以理解的部分，
自然不容易以電影畫面加以表現。

然而由於反覆對於人類生命及生存意義的辯證省思，
這樣腦力激盪的過程，
其實也深深打動或者促使讀者對於自己有所內省，
因而深感認同。

到最後，我竟然被大大感動到落淚不能自制，
起先覺得有些意外甚且莞爾，
後續再深省，卻是回味無窮，這是作者高妙之處，
打動人心的不是高潮迭起的劇情，
而是直指人心的，對於生命和生存價值的反省思維，
想過的人就會深感不能再同意更多而心有戚戚焉，
然而這是沒有想過的人絕對無法明白的。

某種程度上也反映出，
不同類人對於生活態度和價值觀的看法歧異之處。
